The National Agency For The Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons(NAPTIP) in partnership with Daily Times Nigeria organized a public lecture and book launch as part of the activities to mark the 2018 World Day Against Human Trafficking. The event took place at Chelsea Hotel, Central Business District, Abuja on Tuesday, the 31st day of July,2018.
The Wife of the President Aisha Buhari ,the Minister of Justice and the Attorney-General of the federation , Abubakar Salami SAN, The Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr Boss Mustapha , HRH the Oba Of Lagos, The President of Ecowas sent representatives to the event. The representatives of various Embassies were also in attendance.
The welcome address was given by the DG Of NAPTIP while the Opening remarks were made by the representative of the Attorney General of the Federation &Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN. The Groundbreaking Speech was made by the representative of the Secretary to the Federal Government.
The keynote address was delivered by Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma who while commending NAPTIP for it’s many successes since inception ,gave a detailed history of human trafficking in the country and world at large, challenged the Federal Government to rise up to the occasion and end the wicked act of human trafficking.
Also, Prof. Akinseye George SAN reviewed the five books written by the NAPTIP Director- General and two of her staff as part of this year’s event and also applauded the wonderful effort and works done by the agency under the Current Director-General who he saw as fit and in proper place to fight the war against human trafficking.
The new NAPTIP slogan was also launched which is “ENSURING A HUMAN TRAFFICKING FREE NATION”. It was a memorable day for the Director General of NAPTIP , Dame Julie Okah-Donli, as the Nollywood star, ‘King’ Tonto Dike, the Reigning Miss Nigeria, Mildred Peace Ehiguese joined her and many other top citizens to give a red card to human trafficking and it’s perpetrators in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Miss Nigeria,2017, Mildred Peace Ehiguese who was in attendance thanked NAPTIP for the opportunity to join in the fight to stop the ugly menace of Human trafficking in Nigeria. Speaking further, she noted that the sensitization campaigns being carried out by NAPTIP is about the most effective by any other such organization In the country. She also commended on the high number of convictions gotten in the fight since it’s establishment 15years as another testimony that the agency is up its game. ” There is no greater crime against humanity than trafficking in persons, any person at all. It is far worse when innocent children and women are traded for money , thereby making mockery of the total essence of their existence and in the process obliterate their personal dreams and mission in life”, Miss Nigeria stated while also commending the Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari for supporting efforts aimed at eradicating human trafficking and other inhuman acts in the country.
